Broil Burgers on High to Desired Doneness Preheat your broiler to high and place oven rack 3 inches from broiler element. Broil burgers 5-6 minutes per side for well-done. Adjust cooking time for your desired doneness and monitor the internal temperature of the burger to avoid overcooking.

Frying or grilling do work best to create a wonderful crust on the outside of the patties, sealing the juices in. But broiled burgers, while not as wonderfully browned, are excellent, and broiling is so much easier than pan-frying.

The broiler provides high, direct heat that cooks burgers quickly and gives them a nice char. Preheat broiler to high. Place seasoned burger patties on a foil-lined baking sheet, and position them in the oven so that they're 2-3 inches below the broiler. Broil for about 3 minutes, or until the top is nicely browned.

Place patties on prepared baking sheet. Broil in preheated oven for 3 minutes until top is well-browned. Flip patties and continue to broil until center reads 130°F on an instant-read thermometer for medium-rare, about 3 minutes longer. Adjust cooking time if you want them more or less cooked.
